My Journey
Since high school, I have had a background in Engineering. When it came time to choose a college major, I was certain that Engineering was the right path for me. During my studies, I landed an internship at a company named Indlu, which was an exciting opportunity that seemed to align perfectly. However, as I progressed, I realized that Engineering involved a significant amount of travel. Feeling exhausted and burdened, especially being 8 months pregnant, I decided to return to my passion for painting. I took time to carefully consider what would be the best fit for me.
Product design has always lingered in the background of my various career paths. I have consistently been a visual designer with a structured methodology. I have had the opportunity to tailor and adapt study materials to suit the audience (specifically, those in township settings).
Engaging in market research, I have interviewed over 100 individuals to gather insights on their living and working environments. While working at Christ Central Soweto as a graphic designer and a children’s worker, I began actively exploring product design. Suddenly, everything fell into place! It feels like all my experiences have led me to this very moment.
I have always been drawn to the intersection of creativity and functionality, and product design seems like the perfect culmination of my skills and passions. Through my work as a graphic designer and engagement with the community, I have honed my ability to understand people's needs and preferences.
The process of creating products that not only look great but also serve a purpose excites me. I believe that with my background in design and my experience in connecting with diverse groups of people, I can bring a unique perspective to the field of product design.
As I embark on this new chapter, I am eager to apply my insights from market research, my creativity as a visual designer, and my empathy for different audiences to develop innovative and meaningful products. I am grateful for the journey that has led me here, and I am excited to see where this path in product design will take me next.
